Proclaim is a new missionary impulse of the Archdiocese of Vancouver with a strategy and a structure. In his apostolic exhortation the "Joy of the Gospel", Pope Francis wrote about his dream of "a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church's customs... can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today's world rather than for her self-preservation."
God has gifted each of us uniquely and is calling each of us to live out a radical missionary identity so that more people may come to know and love him. By joining the Proclaim movement, you are saying "yes" to that call in a particular way in this particular time and place. You will be responding to a deep need in the world and in the hearts of others, but you will not be doing it alone! In collaboration with other disciples, and in response to an invitation of the Holy Spirit, we know that we will see God move!
This movement in our Church has been years in the making.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Pope Benedict’s XV’s apostolic letter, Pope Francis reminded all Christians of their missionary responsibility conferred at Baptism, in his directive on the coming Extraordinary Missionary Month—to bring the Gospel to everyone. As we approached the Extraordinary Mission Month, Archbishop Michael also called us to step boldly into sharing the Gospel in a time where the Church and our culture need truth now more than ever. And so we are responding, stepping into our missionary calling together through Proclaim.
This is a defining moment for the Church in Vancouver. With support from Alpha, Catholic Christian Outreach, and others, we are coming together to respond to God's call on us right now.
